With her ‘Digital Agenda for Europe’, European commissioner Neelie Kroes hopes to create a situation in which the people of Europe can benefit to the fullest from the digital revolution. Europeans need to have access to a high-quality broadband network. Systems must not operate separately from one another but should be connected through the use of standards. Ms Kroes believes that clear agreements regarding copyright – applying in all Member States of the European Union (EU) - are essential if we are to gain the maximum benefit from the knowledge which should be made available. That aim corresponds perfectly with the wishes of the Dutch higher education and research community. >>
